TSA training course

U1 – Cable Avoidance Training Two Day Course

Course Overview

This course aims to take a candidate with no experience of underground utility detection and train them to competently operate a standard Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (GENNY).

This is achieved through teaching the candidates the basic theory of electromagnetic detection but with most of the two day course being spent in practical sessions building up the candidate’s skill with the equipment.

Working safely and in accordance with HSG47 will be discussed along with the limitations of the equipment they have been taught to use and other types of underground utility equipment available.

The two day course allows for enough time to be spent on practical exercises to give the delegates confidence in using the equipment.

U2 – Underground Utility Clearance Surveys Five Day Course

Course Overview

This course aims to take a candidate with limited experience of underground utility detection and train them to competently locate metallic pipes, electrical cables and trace drainage from accessible chambers. This course would suit someone responsible for clearance surveys in complicated locations.

The course teachs the candidates basic network knowledge, observation skills and electro magnetic techniques.

Candidates will be given knowledge of good working practices, an understanding of the technologies available to them and the various techniques used to successfully utilise those technologies in detecting underground services

Working in accordance with HSG47 will be taught. Incidents where the HSE have prosecuted individuals/companies for non compliance will be discussed.

This course introduces the candidate to Ground Penetrating Radar however it does not teach the use of radar in locating non-metallic materials. This can be taught as a separate course.

Courses are held at The Survey School, Worcester.
